Reception - Miss Holyoak

Welcome to the Reception page. Here parents/carers can find lots of important information regarding your child's education here at Grangetown Primary School. I am so excited to get started with our lovely class of ____ children. In the Reception classroom there will be two main members of staff. Miss Holyoak is the class teacher and Miss Pickering is the teaching assistant.  

 

Dates for your Diary

Tuesday 5th September- Children return to school (please see letter for Reception's first week back).

What do the children need?

• Water bottle
• Reading book and Blue Reading Record Book
• A warm coat 
• PE Kit - to be kept in school and taken home to be washed half termly.

Important information 

• PE is on Tuesdays
• Blue books will be checked daily. We ask that children are reading 3 times a week at home, as a minimum. Please write a comment and sign the blue books when the children have read.
• Please return Contact and Medical Forms as soon as possible.

Reading Volunteers?

We are also looking for parent/carer volunteers who would like to come into school weekly, to read with the children. Please contact the office or speak to Miss Holyoak if you are interested. If selected, one of the children you will read with will be your own child. Training will be provided. Please note that, before starting, a full (enhanced) DBS check is needed for all adults accepted as volunteers in school.

Autumn 1

 We are really enjoying getting started with our new Reception children! We are getting to know our new friends and settling in to the classroom environment. We are loving our core story 'Go Away Bird'. 

 The children are starting Monster Phonics and are learning the first sounds s,a,t and p. We are working on segmenting and blending to read. 

The children are also using their maths skills to subitise numbers 1-3. We are using our Nursery rhymes and songs to remember how to rote count to 10. We are also looking at Numberblocks and discussing how much they represent. Well done Reception. 

Autumn 2

We are very excited about Halloween this term! Autumn 2 is all about celebrations! We will be learning all about Halloween, Christmas, Bonfire night and Diwali. Every year the children enjoy making christmas cards, Diva Lamps and getting crafty with halloween pumpkins and pictures. 

We have loved our visit to ASDA to buy some snacks and hot chocolate for a cosy reading morning! 

We are so excited to learn all about Stickman!
