MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK! - 10th till 14th May 2021

This week we have been focusing on our mental health by taking part in a range of activities that made us feel happy and relaxed and gave us time to do things we rarely choose to do! We completed some fun activities such as: cloud watching; water painting, walking and talking, listening for bird calls, making patterns with nature, team building, and bark rubbings.

We can't wait to spend more time doing this things and looking after our mental health as well as talking to adults and our friends about how we feel.

SCIENCE - THE HUMAN SKELETON - 4.5.21

Our new topic has brought us to learning all about the human bones and our skeleton. We had such fun this week putting together a human skeleton by remembering all the bones.

We worked in groups to put them together and created a family of human skeletons. All of the labels for each bone were jumbled and we had to make sure our skeletons were correctly joined together with the right names for each bone. We also were able to observe and feel a range of animal bones!

BEAMISH VIRTUAL MURDER MYSTERY WORKSHOP -
29.4.21

Year 4 were able to take part in a fabulous opportunity with Beamish museum where they became detectives and worked with Chief Inspector Simon Woodley to solve the crime of a murder. They had to examine the crime scene and direct the inspector across Beamish town to find crucial evidence and identify the victim and murderer.

In the end we solved the crime and spent the week afterwards writing newspaper reports about the event.

ENGLISH - OPEN AND CLOSED QUESTIONS - 28.4.21

Before our Beamish workshop, where we were going to be detectives. Year 4 decided to work on how to ask and answer questions. We looked at the difference between open and closed questions, how to identify them and how to make sure we get the information we need.

We interviewed our partners, decided if our questions were open or closed, and then put them into piles.

TRIP TO BACKHOUSE PARK FOR EARTH DAY - 20.4.21

For Earth Day this year, our theme was nature. We took a trip to a local park (Backhouse), and went on scavenger hunts to appreciate our nature. We looked at identifying trees, plants, insects and birds. We also were able to play on the park with our friends. It was such a good day and when we got back to school we wrote a recount all about it!

Check out some of our photographs below in our slideshow!

MISS CHARLTON'S TORTOISE CAME TO VISIT - 26.3.21

How lucky are Y4KM? We had a visit from Miss Charlton's tortoise. Kindly, she allowed us to pass him round and have a stroke and play with him. He walked on our tables, floor and even across some of our chests. He was amazing and we'd love to see him again.

A VISIT FROM BERTIE

MATHS - DIVIDING USING PRACTICAL OBJECTS - 25.3.21

Learning how to divide using practical objects is so much easier than we thought. We investigated the idea of remainders and looked at our prior knowledge of division by sharing out into shapes using objects. This helped us kick start our topic of division in maths! Look at some of the photos.

Miss Muldowney allowed us to write our answers on the desk!

ENGLISH - NEW CLASS TEXTS - 25.3.21

This week, Miss Muldowney introduced us to two brand new texts that we will be reading in class.

The Ickabog - a story about a Kingdom raged by a fierce Ickabog creature...

and

The Adventurers and The City of Secrets - a story which shows adventurers having to stop thieves stealing treasure!

EASTER EGG COMPETITION - 24.3.21

Our annual Easter egg competition has allowed us to see some fabulous creations this year. The creative ideas were flowing and well done to our winner in Y4KM. Happy Easter everyone!

PIPS EASTER PUPPET SHOW - 23.3.21

The whole school had an amazing time at Pip's Puppet Show for our Easter break. We were able to sing, take part, hold the puppets and watch a fabulous story unfold.

We had to shout out when the characters needed help and we can't wait until the next time the puppet show is back!

PE - CIRCUIT TRAINING - 17.3.21

After returning to school, we have been focusing on keeping our fitness up. We have made sure to exercise more than usual. We have been setting up circuit training and working on each exercise to build up our stamina.

WORLD BOOK DAY! - 12.3.21

This year, our World Book Day theme was to design our own t-shirts based on our favourite books, characters, quotes and book covers. The ideas were creative and well delivered and we had such an amazing day! Here are some photos of us in our t-shirts celebrating!

ENGLISH - CREATING A STORY BOARD - 9.3.21

Coming back to school has been very exciting. We have read a brand new story called 'The Dot'. This is all about a young girl called Vashti who believes she can't draw. Her teacher insists that she makes a mark and see where it takes her. Vashti draws a single dot and says she is done.  Her teacher celebrates her work and Vashti takes her drawing further, making beautiful artwork from dots. She then spreads her message of do not give up by telling a young boy to do the same.

The children had created story boards of the story for them to understand the importance of doing your best and believing in yourself!
