Week 2 - 01.03.21 to 05.03.21
I hope you have enjoyed the first week back of your home learning! We have one more week of learning packs before we return to school on Monday 8th March. The packs are at the office ready to collect. Please continue to log on to Showbie to complete the work and upload any images to your profile.
Monday 1st March
In English today, your task is to read the leaflet all about the flower Snowdrops and identify the features within the text. In your pack you have a checklist for the features you will need to identify. You will highlight/underline/circle and label the features that you find.
In Maths you will be reading some bar charts to answer the questions and you will also be creating your own bar chart using the information provided from the tally chart and pictograms. Remember to read the key on the pictogram, each ice-cream cone equals 5 ice creams; you will need to count up in 5’s. You can watch this video to help you answer all the questions.
In Science you need to watch a video on Oak Academy, Year 3, Science, Plants, Lesson 4. You will learn about the life cycle of a plant. Once you have watched the video, you can complete the worksheet in your learning pack.

Tuesday 2nd March
In English you are going to be planning your leaflet. You will need to choose one of the flowers that you researched last week and put the information into the plan. Remember to all the features you looked at yesterday. Also, the information in your plan can be brief short sentences.
In Maths you will be looking at different tables. On the tables you will have to read the information and then answer the questions. Please remember to read the question carefully. You can watch this video before answering the questions.
In Science your task is to read the statements about the life cycle of a plant and match them to the correct stage. Then you will need to write down the four different ways seeds can be dispersed and write an explanation for each. You can watch the video from Yesterday's Science lesson to refresh your memory.
In PE our new topic is Dance; you will be continuing to learn a routine for the song Waka Waka by Shakira, K-Mix version. For this weeks lesson you need to watch this video and follow the instructions.
Wednesday 3rd March
In English you will be creating your leaflet on the A3 sheet of paper at the back of your learning packs. Remember to write in full sentences and provide as much detail as you can. You could even use adjectives to describe and make the reader really imagine the flower in their heads. You can also colour in your images to make your leaflet stand out.
In Maths we are starting a new topic of measurement focusing on length and perimeter. In today’s lesson you are going to be measuring length in cm and m. You will need to read the rulers carefully to find the lengths. Check your answers to make sure you have written the correct unit of measurement (cm or m).
In French you can watch the video on Madame Blackett’s French home learning page. In Music you can also go to Mrs Bryant-King’s home learning page to complete the activities.
In ICT we will be continuing to explore digital art. This week your task is to use one of the photographs you took last week and edit it. You can watch this video to show you how you can use your iPad or phone to edit the images. Once you have edited your photograph, you could create a collage of all the different edits you created for that one photo.
Thursday 4th March
In English you have some SPaG activities to complete. Some of the activities include spelling, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and suffixes.
In Maths you will be using your knowledge of cm and m and writing the equivalent lengths. Remember there are 100cm in 1m
In Art today you are going to be looking at four artists and one of their famous paintings. You are going to be identifying some of the features and techniques you think the artists used when creating their paintings.

Friday 5th March
In English you have a reading comprehension to complete all about ‘Super Seeds’. Don’t forget to read the text fully first so that you understand it, then use skimming and scanning to find the information you need.
In Maths you will be using your knowledge of mm and cm and writing the equivalent lengths. Remember there are 10mm in 1cm.
In Art your task is to choose 2 of the artists you looked at in yesterday’s art lesson and compare them. What is similar about their paintings? What is different? Think about the features and techniques you identified last lesson.

Week 1 - 22.02.21 to 26.02.21
Hello Year 3! I hope you have enjoyed your half term holiday and you are ready to get back into your home learning. We are calling this week one of your new learning pack as we have moved into a new term – Spring 2! The new packs are now starting from a Monday and will end of a Friday just like your normal school week. This pack will provide you work for Monday 22nd February to Friday 26th February. The packs are ready to collect at the office. Please continue to log on to Showbie to complete the work and upload images to your portfolio. You can also send me photographs to show me what you got up to during your half term holiday.
Monday 22nd February
For today's task in English you have a new image from Pobble365. The title is ‘The Magic Tree’. I wonder what interesting and exciting things you can write about. Here is the coloured version of the image:

Read the opening of the story and answer the questions. I have uploaded the document to Showbie if you would like to answer the questions by writing, typing or making a voice over. Please answer your questions in full sentences and use your imagination! You will be writing the next part of the story and you can challenge yourself with the ‘sick sentences’. Remember to include varied punctuation, all your capital letters and vary your adjectives, verbs, adverbs and sentence openers.
In Maths you will be recapping what you learnt about tally charts in year 2. You will be representing numbers in tally form and even drawing your own tally chart on the back of your sheet! Watch this video to help you complete the worksheet.
In Science you need to watch a video on Oak Academy, Year 3, Science, Plants, Lesson 1. You will learn about the conditions we could change to investigate the growth of a plant. Once you have watched the video, you can complete the worksheet in your learning pack.

Tuesday 23rd February
In English your task is to go on a flower hunt to see if you can find any of the flowers on the worksheet in your garden or outside around your home. Once you have been on a hunt for some flowers, your task is to choose your 3 favourite flowers from this sheet or from what you found in the garden and conduct your own research. You can write the information you find on the sheet or you could type it up.

In Maths you will be recapping what you learnt about pictograms in year 2. You will be using tally charts to help you draw pictograms in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Use the squared paper provided to draw your pictograms, and don’t forget to use a ruler! Watch this video to help you complete the worksheet.
In Science you need to watch a video on Oak Academy, Year 3, Science, Plants, Lesson 2. You will be learning about the parts and functions of a plant. You can also read the information on this PowerPoint. Once you have watched the video and read the information you will be able to complete the activities on the worksheet.

Wednesday 24th February
In English your task is to create a non-chronological report on spring flowers using the 3 flowers that you chose and researched yesterday. You will need to remember to use a heading, introduction, sub-headings, paragraphs and technical language.

In Maths you will be interpreting pictograms and working out amounts from the information given. Remember to check the key as the pictogram may not always be counting in ones!
In French you have a template for a valentine’s card. You can watch the video on Madame Blackett’s French home learning page. Please send photographs of your completed cards to Showbie.
In ICT we will be exploring a new topic of digital art where we will use digital images and combine them with other media. This week your task is to take some creative photographs of some flowers. You might want to explore with zooming in on a petal or the stem or you might want to change the angles and take a number of photos of the same flower. I can’t wait to see what photographs you take.

Thursday 25th February
In English you have some SPaG activities to complete. Some of the activities include spelling, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and suffixes.
In Maths you will be completing some more questions regarding pictograms, except this time you may have to work out the key! Also, there may not be whole pictures in the pictogram… what might this mean?
In Science you can watch this video to learn all about the parts and functions of a flower. On Tuesday you looked at the parts and functions of a plant. I wonder if you see any similarities and differences. Once you have watched the video, you can complete the labelling worksheet.

Friday 26th February
In English you have a reading comprehension to complete all about the oldest plant! Don’t forget to read the text fully first so that you understand it, then use skimming and scanning to find the information you need.
In Maths you will be consolidating your knowledge of pictograms using a different style and format of question. In some you may need to complete the pictogram, others you must interpret the data to answer questions. Read each question thoroughly and then write your answer next to it.
In Art your task is to go through the slides on the PowerPoint to learn about some famous artists from all around the world. Once you have watched and read about the artists, you will write down one thing about each artist that stood out to you. For example, you might like something about one of their paintings or it might be something about their inspirations.

Week 5 - 04.02.21 to 12.02.21
Hello Year 3! I hope you have enjoyed completing week fours learning pack. We will be moving on to week five! Please remember that this pack will start from Thursday 4th February and will last until Friday 12th February. Please continue to log on to Showbie to complete the work and upload images to your portfolio. I look forward to seeing what you get up to this week.
Thursday 4th February
For today's task in English you will be looking at the differences between formal and informal language. Do you already know what this means? Please watch the PowerPoint about formal and informal language. There are some sheets in your pack which accompany the video. I have uploaded this to Showbie too.
In Maths you will be starting a new topic of money. To start with, you will be recapping what you learnt last year about counting money in pence. You may have 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p or 50p coins, so make sure you know what each one looks like!

In Science you have been learning about forces and magnets. Last week you used magnets to identify which objects were magnetic and non magnetic and even created your own compass. You can watch the video to recap the compass work on labelling and finding the places on the map. This week you have been given a compass and an A3 squared sheet of paper at the back of your pack to draw and create your own map, adding your own places to visit. You could even make this a treasure island!

Practise your Maths skills on Hit the Button. You can challenge yourself on the times tables you are less confident with as well as challenging yourself on your most confident times tables to try and beat your high scores.
Friday 5th February
In English you will be finding out what a non-chronological report is – this is because you will be writing one next week! Watch the video to find out about why we have non-chronological reports and what the features are. Then your task is to locate and highlight/underline/circle the features on the example I have given you. The features include; the title, subheadings, introduction, caption, images, factual language and bullet points. As a challenge, can you pick 3 of your favourite facts and write them down.
In Maths you will be continuing to recap counting money, this time in pounds. Remember, this may be in coins or notes, so make sure you double check the amount you are counting in!

In RE you will be learning all about the different Christian beliefs. You have information on what Christians believe about God and Jesus, the Creation story, the Christmas story, the Easter story, praying and the Lord’s Prayer, the Bible and God’s rules. Once you have read the text, you have a worksheet to complete.
Watch the video and practise some gymnastic shapes and movements in PE. This week you have jumps to learn as well as practise the key shapes and balances. You can then add them to your routine you have been creating.
Monday 8th February
In English you will be planning a non-chronological report about recycling. Use the websites in your pack and the links below to find out more information about recycling that you would like to use in your report, then add them to your plan.

In Maths you will be putting your knowledge of coins and notes together and making an amount from pounds and pence. Watch the video to help you visualise the coins, then complete the sheet. Remember, when counting money you should always start with the pounds as this is the biggest amount.
In RE today, you will be reading all about the miracles of Jesus. Do you already know any of the amazing things Jesus did? You can then complete the questions on the worksheet provided in your pack.

Tuesday 9th February
In English you will be starting to write your non-chronological report about recycling. Remember, we usually take two whole English lessons to do this, so you can continue it tomorrow. I would much rather you took your time and wrote a really fantastic report! Watch the video where we will model what we must include in the first bit of our report, then begin to write your introduction and first two paragraphs.
In Maths you will be learning how to convert different coins into an amount, for example, being able to change pounds into pence and vice versa. You will use your knowledge of coins, including how many pence are in one pound, and multiplication. Watch the video to show you how to do this and then complete the sheet in your pack.
It is French Pancake Day today; Madame Blackett has given you a recipe to follow at home with your adult. You can watch the video on Madame Blackett’s French home learning page. Please send photographs of your pancakes to Showbie.
In ICT you will be completing your mini book on writereader. Last week you should have added in a title, pictures and text. Can you read through the work you have already completed and then improve it in any way? Can you add any adjectives? Can you add any adverbs? Then you can add more pages of text and pictures to complete you story.

Wednesday 10th February
In English you will be continuing to write your non-chronological report about recycling. Remember to take your time and keep re-reading your work to check it makes sense and you have included everything you need to. Watch the video where we will model what we must include in the next bit of our report, then write your last two paragraphs and draw a diagram.
In Maths you will be adding money together. You must know whether you are working in pounds or pence as this will change the place value of the number. You must also be able to recall how many pence is in one pound in order to know when to increase the pounds value. Watch the video to show you how to do this first, then have a go at the questions on the sheet.
Today in RE you are going to read the information in the boxes and familiarise yourself with the key events in Jesus’ life. Your task is to then put those key events in order on the timeline provided. The timeline will start from the very first thing that happened in Jesus’ life and will end with the last thing that happened.

Thursday 11th February
Today in English you will be looking back over what you wrote the last two days and making any edits. Remember how we do this, put a small line through the word and write it above. You can use the checklist to make sure you have included everything you needed to, and also use the word bank to make sure all of your spellings are correct.
In Maths you will be using the skills you learnt yesterday about recognising coins and knowing how many pence is in one pound to answer some subtraction questions. The questions will be in different formats, but they are all styles of questions you have come across before, so don’t let it put you off! Watch the video first if you are struggling.
In Art you will be exploring shading and textures. You will learn and practise some drawing techniques using lines, hatching, stippling and smudging. There is a PowerPoint to show you all of the drawing techniques. You can then practise your skills on the worksheets.

Friday 12th February
In English you have a range of activities to complete about Chinese New Year including a word search, crossword, reading comprehension and three poem tasks! Feel free to complete these at your own pace; you might want to save some for over the half term!
In Maths you will be working out how to give change from a given number. You must remember everything you have learnt about adding and subtracting money. You will also be using your number bond facts, so you might want to revisit this on Hit the Button before attempting this lesson! Watch the video and then try the questions on the sheet. Remember, if you are asked to explain your answer then you must do so in full sentences.
Once you have done this, why not try working with money in real life? Ask a family member to buy something in cash and work out how much change they would receive.
In Art you have a 3D craft of a Chinese New Year fortune folding dragon to create. You can decorate the sheet provided before following the cutting and folding instructions.

Here is a video to watch for PE and practise some gymnastic rolls including the pencil roll, tuck roll and straddle roll. Once you have practised your rolls, you can watch this video to recap all of the key shapes, balances and jumps then add them altogether for your final routine. I can't wait to see them!
Week 4 - 28.01.21 to 03.02.21

You will be given a little starter quiz at the beginning to see how well you remember contact and non-contact forces. After watching the video, complete the questions on the worksheet. Once you have completed the worksheet, you can do the quiz in your pack to test your knowledge.

Friday 29th January
In English you will be looking at personification. Personification is when you give an animal or object qualities that only a human can have. Complete the questions on the worksheet and use you imagination to bring an animal or object to life!
In Maths you will be answering some more 2 digit and 1 digit division questions with remainders. Read the questions on the left hand side and then complete your workings out on the right on the squared paper. Keep practising these questions so you become confident.
In Science you will be completing an investigation relating to magnets. Watch the video demonstrating how to complete the magnet experiment. You will need to predict if the object on the sheet will be magnetic or non magnetic and them complete the experiment and record your results.
In PE you will be continuing with shapes and movements in gymnastics. Watch this video and practise the shapes and see if you can put them into the routine you have been creating.
Monday 1st February
In English you have a pronoun worksheet to complete. Can you remember what a pronoun is? On the sheet you will be sorting the pronouns into a table relating to first, second and third person. You will then underline the pronouns in the sentences and finally, identify whether a sentence is written using the first, second or third person.
In Maths you will be learning about scaling, which is when you make a number, object or amount bigger or smaller by multiplying and dividing. Watch this video first to learn what scaling is, then see if you can answer the questions on the sheet.
Today in Science you must watch the video on the Oak Academy website under Year 3, Science, Magnetism and Lesson 3 (How does a compass work?). You will be given a little starter quiz at the beginning to see how well you remember what you have learnt on magnets. After watching the video, there is a slide show going through the questions on the worksheet. Once you have completed the worksheet, you can do the quiz in your pack to test your knowledge.

Tuesday 2nd February
In English you will be completing a number of questions related to non-fiction texts. Can you remember the features that we looked at when writing our explanation texts? Make sure you read the questions carefully and answer them.
In Maths you will be completing more questions about scaling. Use this task to help you become familiar with the language and what a question might ask of you. Read the questions on the left hand side and then complete your workings out on the squared paper.
In French you will be answering questions about animals. To help you complete this sheet you must watch the video on Madame Blackett’s French home learning page.
In ICT over the next few weeks you will be learning how to make a book with writereader. Last week you should have used your logins and became familiar with the website. This week, you will be making a mini book about anything you want! It can be fiction or non fiction, but make sure it has a title and lots of pictures and text. I can't wait to see what you write!
Wednesday 3rd February
In English you have a non-fiction reading comprehension to complete all about tigers! Don’t forget to read the text fully first so that you understand it, then use skimming and scanning to find the information you need.
In Maths you will be completing some word problems about scaling. There is squared paper for you to use when doing your working out and then you can put your answer in the box.
In Geography you will be learning all about the eight points on a compass. What is a compass? Do you know already? If not, watch this video will talk you through what a compass is, how to use it and what your tasks are. Then, complete the sheets in your learning pack. Once you have finished, you could have a go at the interactive activity.
In Science you are going to create your own compass. Read and follow the instructions in your learning pack. Please send a photograph of your completed compass to our class email address, or upload it to Showbie for me to see!

Friday 22nd January
In English today you will be completing a setting description about our story – The Tin Forest. In your learning pack, I have printed out the text from the story of where we have read up to so far. Please read back through the text, then see if you can use those sentences and the picture provided to describe the man’s house. Think about including all the senses (see, hear, taste, smell, touch) and include lots of interesting adjectives!
In Maths today you will be recapping how to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. However, this time you may have to exchange a ten stick for 10 ones to be able to share it out equally. Watch the video and then try the questions on the worksheet.
In Science and Design Technology you will be planning how you could make a simple thing out of just a plastic bottle, you may want to create a monster, a bird feeder, a pen pot or a plant pot – the possibilities are endless! Use the sheet provided in your learning pack to help you think of some ideas for what you could make, and then plan it on the next page.

In PE you will be continuing with gymnastics. Please watch this video to recap all of the shapes you have learnt so far.
Monday 25th January
In English you will be completing an activity called role on the wall. Imagine the old man in the Tin Forest and think about what we think of him so far. You will describe the characters feelings and personality and write those words on the inside of the outline. You will then describe the characters appearance and anything else you know about him and write those words on the outside of the outline.
In Maths your will be recapping what you have learnt about dividing a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number so far. Watch the video and work alongside Miss Charlton to make sure you are using the correct method, then try the questions in your learning pack.
Today in Science and Design Technology you will be making your plastic bottle creation. Remember to follow the plan you made on Friday. Please take pictures of what you make as I would love to see it! Once you have finished, use the sheet in your pack to evaluate your model, asking questions such as what you made and how you could improve it.

Tuesday 26th January
Today in English you will be acting as the teacher and correcting some sentences which seem to be missing all their punctuation! Make sure you reread the sentence after you think you have finished before moving onto the next one, to check that you haven’t missed anything.
In Maths you will be helping to plan a party. You will have to use your times table, multiplication and division knowledge to work out how many items you will have left over after you have divided them out equally, this is called a remainder. Before you complete the sheet, watch the video on the website which explains what a remainder is.
In French you will be answering questions about famous French landmarks. To help you complete this sheet you must watch the video on Madame Blackett’s French home learning page.
In ICT over the next few weeks you will be learning how to make a book with writereader, for this site you will need your logins which are in the back of your learning pack. Once you have logged in, all I ask you to do is explore the site. See if you can find out how to start a new book, and maybe even add a title or some pictures.
Wednesday 27th January
In English you have a reading comprehension to complete all about superheroes! Don’t forget to read the text fully first so that you understand it, then use skimming and scanning to find the information you need.
In Maths you will be working out division calculations with some left over. Can you remember what this is called? This time you must work out the division abstractly. The best way to do this is by counting up in the number you are dividing by until you get close enough to the number you started with. However, if you are struggling with this you can always share out the sweets. For all of these questions you will be left with a remainder and you might write this in the way that is shown on the sheet (e.g. 15 ÷ 4 = 12r3).
In Geography you will be locating capital cities within the countries you found last week. Once you are confident, see if you can complete the quiz.
For an extra task, use the instruction sheet provided at the back of your pack to make a fortune teller. We have used these in class a few times, so you should know how they work! When you have followed the instructions, test yourself or your friends and family on their capital city knowledge!
Week 2 - 13.01.21 to 20.01.21

Wednesday
For today's task in English you have writing tasks to complete. The title is 'The Tsunami'. This picture has a very interesting title. I wonder what exciting things we can write about! Here's a coloured version of the picture below:

Read the beginning of the story and answer all of the questions on the page in your learning pack, in full sentences, and use your imagination! You can continue writing the next part of the story. I can't wait to hear your completed stories.
In Maths today you will be multiplying 1 digit by 2 digit numbers. You can watch this video first and have a go at the worksheet in your learning pack. You will be using 10s and 1s to show the repeated addition which represents the multiplication.
Today in Science we are learning about Forces. Please read through the posters in your pack and then match the forces to the definitions on the sheet provided. Here is a copy of the posters in colour.

For today's task in English you have a writing task where you have been given an image to create a setting description about. Please remember to use capital letters, full stops, adjectives and neat handwriting. I would love to see what you can remember from our English lessons in school.

Today in Science you have a sorting activity to complete. In your learning packs there are two sheets with 'push' and 'pull' on them. Then you have a number of different picture cards with an action displayed. Your task is to look at the image and talk about what you can see and decide if it is a 'push' or 'pull' movement.
You will be continuing with gymnastics in PE this week. Here are some new key shapes to practise at home. Could you learn these shapes and then add them to your sequence of movements from last week?
Friday
In English you have an adverb activity to complete. Read the definition to refresh your memory and watch this video. The tasks include circling the adverbs in the sentences, adding an adverb to the sentences and then creating your own sentence using exciting adverbs. I can't wait to read them.
In Maths today you will be multiplying 1 digit by 2 digit numbers. You can watch this video and them complete the worksheet. The worksheet is very similar to the one you completed on Wednesday, using pictorial representations to work out the calculation.
In Science you will be using your knowledge from Wednesday and Thursdays lessons relating to the forces- push and pull. You will be completing a labeling activity where you will identify the action.

For today's English you have a SPaG activity for speech to complete. Can you remember where the inverted commas should be when you write some speech? In your learning pack you have some questions to answer and the instructions are at the top of each page.

In ICT you can log on to iLearn2 and use the activity code - 878A to access the Music Creation activity pack. You will be able to experiment with the scales, chords, melodies, rhythm and tempo. You will also be able to create your own song by mixing sounds together using Incredibox.

Tuesday
In today's English lesson you have a reading comprehension activity to complete. Please read the text carefully and then complete the questions using full sentences and provide explanations to support your answer.
In Maths you will be using all of the knowledge you have learnt this week to complete the final activity for multiplying 1 digit by 2 digit numbers. Feel free to watch the videos from the previous days if you need a little recap. There is also squared paper in your learning pack to show your working out.
In Geography you will be locating countries of the world. You can watch the video and then test your knowledge on the quiz.
For an extra task, you can click on the image and play the interactive game to test your knowledge on the forces- push and pull. Can you describe the actions and explain whether the force is push or pull?

This week for your English activities, you will be completing work related to 'The Tin Forest'. You will be drawing a scene from your imagination and from the text provided in your learning packs. For English Task 2 click here for the coloured images of the two forests to compare. There is a simile activity for you to complete, if you need a little reminder, you can watch this video.
Your Maths activities this week are related to the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Once you have completed the questions in your learning pack, you can practise your times tables by going on Hit the Button to try and beat your high score!
