Grangetown Children's Centre is based within the same building as the Grangetown Primary School. Staff from the School, the Children's Centre, and from Daisychain, work together to ensure that the building as a whole offers first-class provision for the local community.

A range of activities and services - geared to helping and supporting families and young children - are provided through the Centre. Some are held at Grangetown, and some at other venues within the local and neighbouring communities. Click here for the current timetable.

To sum up the role of Children's Centres, here's a quote from the main Sunderland Children's Centre website:

There are 17 Children's Centres now open in Sunderland - all exciting places for you and your children to visit on a regular basis. Your child can make friends and learn as they play, whilst you can get professional advice on health, family matters and learn about training and job opportunities. You can also meet other parents, carers, grandparents and childminders in a safe and relaxed environment.

The centres provide:-

- play and learn activities for you and your child to enjoy together

- the chance to meet other parents

- family learning courses to develop skills and prepare parents and carers for work

- child and family health services, including advice on healthy eating, giving up smoking, breastfeeding groups and specialist health services for children

- affordable childcare from 8am - 6pm

- volunteering opportunities and many more activities and services.
