Letter for:
All Parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome Back to School!

Today – the perfect start!
I’m writing this at 2.30 today, and I’m very happy to report to you that today has been the perfect start to our new school year! The children have settled quickly into their new classes. It’s great to see all of the children in uniform – they all look so smart! They have all made a really positive first-impression – their effort and behaviour today has been first-class. This excellent start will give us a positive foundation upon which we can all build.

New Staff
I know you will join me in welcoming Miss Tose (EYFS teacher), Mrs Smith (EYFS teaching assistant), and Miss Stabler (Year 1 teacher). Miss Holt got married during the Summer and is now Mrs Mitchell!

School Uniform
All uniform ordered before the holidays has been delivered to school. If you need additional items, you can get an order form from the school office (or from our website). Remember that you’re welcome to buy uniform items from local shops (ASDA, Tesco etc), if you wish, as long as these items are in line with our uniform policy. We’ve ordered some iron-on badges today, and we’ll let you know when they arrive. Please mark uniform items with your child’s name, as we cannot be held responsible for missing items.

Haircuts, ear-rings etc
Please ensure that zig-zags and/or lines are not part of your child’s haircut - we do not feel this is suitable for school. Ear-rings are not to be worn for school, as they can be hazardous to a child’s safety.

PE times, Homework etc
Your child’s teacher will be dropping you a short letter about this, and various other bits and pieces of information, this week.

Curriculum Information
As usual, our termly Parent Pamphlets will tell you all about what your child is learning this term. These will be issued on Monday 19th September.

Keeping you informed - Weekly Updates and Monthly Newsletters
The first Weekly Update will be issued on Friday this week. The first Monthly Newsletter of the new year will be issued towards the end of September.

Our Website – a mine of information!
See: www.grangetown.sunderland.sch.uk

Dates for this term
A full set of dates for this term will be issued to parents next week, and will also be available on our website (see the ‘What’s On’ and ‘Calender’ sections).

We’re here to help!
We are keen to maintain and develop our excellent home-school links. We are here to help! We will do everything within our power to ensure that your child’s experience of school (and yours) is positive in every way. If you have any questions or issues, no matter how small, please speak to us – we will help! You can catch your child’s teacher briefly on the playground every day. If a longer appointment is needed with your child’s teacher – we will arrange it. Our Office staff Mrs Minto, Mrs Lowden and Miss Gaffney are all available to help in any way they can. And, of course, Mr McAnaney (Headteacher) and Mrs Cole (Deputy Headteacher) are also available to assist in any way possible.

Looking forward to working with you this year. Let’s make 2011-2012 another FANTASTIC year!

Mr McAnaney and the Grangetown Team; 5th September 2011
