Here at Grangetown we're in the process of setting up a football club - we're calling it GTFC - Grangetown Football Club!

As well as having a year 5 & 6 team to compete in a local schools' league, GTFC will also have:

  • opportunities for years 3 & 4 to play occasional matches

  • a girls 'first-team' as well as a boys team (plus mixed football too, of course)

  • A 'Football de Saleo' Soccer Academy - learn to play like the Brazilians!

  • Little Dribblers - football for 2-5 year olds, run by SAFC coaches

  • Family Learning, run by SAFC!

  • Show Racism the Red Card sessions - these are run by ex-SAFC captain Gary Bennett!

  • Visits to the Learning Centre at the Stadium of Light

  • A Summer football tournament, at Grangetown, involving several schools.

In other words, all things football at Grangetown will come under the GTFC banner!

Here's an update on our football season from Jordan and Kieron:

Grangetown have played 14 games this season. We won 5 games, drew 3 and lost 6. We scored 21 goals, conceded 20 and finished the League with 18 points. We finished eighth out of 15 teams. The team’s season started off badly, at Richard Avenue, where we got beaten 3-1 and drew 0-0. Then we kept on drawing – 3 in a row. When we were drawing it made us feel a bit disappointed, because we kept conceding goals. Our teams top three scorers are: Layton Olsen, Kieron Reid and Owen Spoors. Mr Newby has been training with us every Friday afternoon to help us develop our football skills. By Jordan Scott and Keiron Reid. May 2010.
