Information and
communication technology plays a big part in the way we live and work,
and this will be even truer of the world in which our children
will be adults. Children need to be confident in their use of
technology, and to have an understanding of its benefits and
drawbacks. This is the focus of the ICT curriculum.
The children learn to:
~ Obtain information and store it e.g. through use of audio and
video recording and the internet.
~ How to share information with others e.g. through use of
email.
~ How to tailor information to their own needs e.g. through
using a wide range of computer software.
Some of this work takes place in the classroom, where children
have access to a range of ICT equipment including 2-3 PCs in each room with internet access. In addition we
have a computer suite with twenty-six high specification
machines, all of which are networked and have internet access.
Our whole school network enables the
sharing of information and of programs, and is bringing benefits
to staff as well as to pupils. We have recently installed a
wireless network, covering the whole school.
Every classroom, and the suite, has a interactive whiteboard,
linked to the internet and to the school network. This helps the
teacher to present information in an exciting visual manner, and
the 'interactive' facility means that pupils can be fully
active, engaged and involved in their learning. We feel that in
the hands of our skilled teacher, this is contributing to high
quality teaching and learning.
Our new website is now up and running (of course it is, because
you're here right now, and is very much viewed as a source of
information for parents as well as a showcase of the positive
work we do. The children in our 'Media Team' group will soon be
active in contributing to the site. |
